QB Steve Davis dies
QB Steve Davis dies, Former Oklahoma star quarterback Steve Davis, 60, was one of two people killed in a plane crash late Sunday afternoon near the South Bend Regional Airport in Indiana.

The plane, which was carrying four passengers, actually touched down at the airport before going back up and crashing into three homes in a nearby neighborhood. The pilot reported a problem with electrical power on approach.

Fellow passenger Wesley Caves also was killed. Two other passengers were seriously injured and a woman in one of the houses also was hurt. All three were taken to Memorial Hospital.

Davis played quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners from 1972-76 and was the 1976 Orange Bowl MVP. Davis, 60, was 32-1-1 as a starter and led the Sooners to two national titles.

I'm saddened by the loss of Steve Davis. Great role model for young people on & off the field. He was my 1st QB & had an outstanding career.

Davis had also become a mentor to several Oklahoma quarterbacks over the years, including Landry Jones, whom Davis sent a letter of encouragement during Jones' struggles last season.
