Earless Bunny Crushed by Cameraman

Earless Bunny Crushed by Cameraman, A bunny born without ears named Til, who was a rising star in Germany, was killed Wednesday when a cameraman stepped on him, crushing him instantly.

A small zoo in Saxony was planning to present the 17-day-old bunny to the world at a press conference, according to the Associated Press.

A cameraman told Bild newspaper that he hadn't seen the tiny creature that had burrowed itself under the hay when he stepped backwards and ended Til's life.

Uwe Dempewolf, the zoo's director, said that this was a tragic event, but Til did not feel any pain.

"We are all shocked. During the filming, the cameraman took a step back and trod on the bunny," Dempewolf told Spiegel Online. "He was immediately dead, he didn't suffer…. No one could have foreseen this. Everyone here is upset. The cameraman was distraught."

Til gained national attention because he had no ears, due to a rare genetic defect.

Til's body will be frozen while the zoo decides if they should have him stuffed.

This is not the first celebrity animal tragedy Germany has endured. According to Spiegel Online, Til's death occurred just as Germany approaches the one year anniversary of the death of Knut, the polar bear who captivated the nation before he died when he fell in the moat of his enclosure after collapsing.
