'Occupy' is most commonly used word, Global Language Monitor has come out with the commonly used words on the Internet. The compilation is made up of English words which were commonly used on the World Wide Web.On top of the list is the word ‘Occupy.’ According to the researchers, Occupy’s popularity was pushed up by the recent Occupy Movement. Other uses of the word on the Internet include ‘Occupied Territories’ and Occupation of Iraq. Staying in the news all these while have helped the word get top of the list.
Following Occupy is ‘Deficit.’ The researchers say the word was made popular by the world’s economy. With several countries struggling with their debts, the word became one of the most used in the news. The famous deficit in 2011 was undoubtedly that of the United States which nearly collapsed the economy of the country.
Other English words that made it to the top ten list are Fracking, Drone, Non-veg, Kummerspeck, Haboob, 3Q, Trustafarians and The Other 99.
Along with the words, top phrases were also compiled. Arab Spring topped the list with Royal Wedding, Anger and Rage, Climate Change, The Great Recession, Tahrir Square, Linear No Threshold (LNT), Bunga Bunga, ‘How’s that working out for you?’ and “Make no mistake about it!” coming in that order.
