Woman killed at Costco, CostcoA woman is killed and a Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputy was wounded after responding to a call of disorderly conduct at a Sterling-area Costco store. The Costco is located at 21398 Price Cascades Plaza. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Liz Mills said the shooting occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday. The deputy had been called to respond to a disorderly conduct complaint.

Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman said two deputies confronted a woman that was brandishing a knife and maybe a scissors acting strangely. The deputies first hit the woman with a Tazer but it did not stop her. At that point, one deputy fired, struck and killed the woman. The second deputy was struck by a bullet in the leg, but should recover. Sheriff Chapman said it may have been a ricochet.

Mills said more circumstances of the shooting are under investigation and still being sorted out.

FOX 5 Photojournalist Jason Smith (@FOXPhotog) tweets eyewitnesses report hearing four or five gunshots. The shooting at Costco in Sterling was near the deli counter. One woman among the injured.

Mills said the shooting scene has now been determined to be safe and secure, and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Further details about the deputy’s injuries were unavailable.

Update: The woman has been identified as 38-year-old Mhai Scott.
