9-year-old killed by intruder
“We were doing a house-to-house search and in some cases were searching attics and storages,” Calaveras County Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Macedo said Saturday night. “It’s a difficult area to search. It’s rural, it’s remote.”
Around noon on Saturday, the 12-year-old brother of the unidentified girl spotted an intruder inside of their home. He called his parents, who were out at the time, and the police were alerted by a 911 call.
The man ended up running off, but the young boy soon discovered his nine-year-old sister had been stabbed multiple times. The young girl later died at a hospital.
A neighbor also saw the suspect fleeing from the home. The intruder was described as a white or Hispanic male, about six feet tall. He is said to have a muscular build and longer gray hair. At the time of the attack, he was wearing blue pants and a black long-sleeved shirt.
The children had not recognized the man.
