Tebow trade rumors
In 2011, Tebow made 11 starts at quarterback for the Broncos. Despite questions about his mechanics, Tebow averaged 123.5 passing yards per game and led Denver to the playoffs. In the postseason, he topped the Pittsburgh Steelers with 316 passing yards and two touchdowns. It looked like his long-term success wasn't that questionable....bleacherreport.
Tebow was then picked apart by the New England Patriots, completing less than 40 percent of his passes for 136 yards.
After the playoff exit the Broncos decided they needed a change. Denver acquired Peyton Manning and shipped Tebow off to the New York Jets.
Since the trade, Tebow has become a name you barely hear on the gridiron—unless you're watching ESPN.
The 25-year-old played in 12 games for the Jets this season, never making a start at quarterback.
Tebow was used mainly on special teams and in specialty situations. He threw for a total of 39 yards on the season, while rushing for 102—mainly out of the fullback spot.
Now that the great experiment is over, it seems Tebow is on his way out of New York.
If this was two seasons ago, one would expect plenty of phone calls to the Jet's front office. But as far as rumors and news goes, the NFL seems to have turned it's back on Tebowmania.
There are currently five teams that could use new blood at quarterback. They are the Kansas City Chiefs, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets and the Arizona Cardinals.
The Chiefs have the first pick in this year's draft, so it makes sense that they've had no interest in Tebow.
The Jets, despite their deteriorating quarterback situation, obviously no longer want anything to do with Tebow.
Buffalo—that still has Ryan Fitzpatrick—and Arizona both have top 10 picks in the draft, and could reach for a quarterback. They've remained mum on Tebowmania.
The only suitor left—that would make sense—is Jacksonville.
According a recent report by CBS Sports, the Broncos had two packages for Tebow last season—One from New York and one from Jacksonville.
Owner Jon Elway allowed Tebow to pick which team to go to, and he chose the Jets. So one would expect—now that he's back on the market—the Jaguars would remain interested.
But based on a recent ESPN article, it seems that the Jaguars have no plans for their future that involves Tebow.
With very little interest in Tim Tebow the quarterback, it may be time for Tim Tebow the halfback/tight end to make an appearance.
Switching positions isn't new talk for Tebow. From the minute he was drafted it was speculated that he would eventually move to a different position—one that suited him better.
A 6'2", 236 pounds, Tebow has the frame to play tight end or fullback.
While he has yet to make a catch in his career, he's done plenty of rushing. Over his three seasons in the NFL Tebow has averaged 5.6 yards per carry with 12 touchdowns.
If Tebow wants to have long-term success—or at least a career—in the NFL, a position change is the only logical step.
Of course that requires an attitude change from the man himself, who apparently still has hopes for starting in 2013.
The longer Tim Tebow holds onto quarterback, the less of a future he's going to have.
There's now speculation that Tebow couldn't adapt to a new position. In a recent goof by ESPN, Mark Schlereth was caught talking about Tebow off camera, in which he says:
But I'm going to tell you. I talked to a bunch of Broncos coaches who said 'I just don't know if he's a fluid enough athlete to go over and play tight end ... they say he doesn't catch the ball naturally either
If that nugget of gossip from Schlereth is true, Tebow is really running out of options in the NFL.
The longer he works out at quarterback, the more people are going to doubt his ability to make a change.
That's why, if there's any hope for Tebow in the NFL, he has to change his mindset and switch positions.
