Nicolas Sarkozy four children + three wives
Nicolas Sarkozy four children + three wives, Nicolas Sarkozy made the battle against extremism the keynote of his re-election campaign: Carla Bruni Sarkozy, wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, hosted a luncheon for wives of leaders attending the G8 summit in Deauville. The 43-year-old Carla, a former supermodel, attended the event in a white maternity dress and a black wool coat. Reportedly, she gestured towards her baby bump alongside the wife of the Russian president while the photographers snapped away.

Carla’s maternity dress, as opposed to her usual clingier dresses, confirmed the rumors of her pregnancy. She also accepted well wishes and flowers before the gathering which was held to raise awareness about illiteracy.

After skipping the usual visits to art galleries and museums, Carla’s father-in-law said last week that she is pregnant. Her father-in-law, Pal Sarkozy, told the German newspaper Bild, “I'm certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla.” Carla chaired a meeting on her chosen campaign subject, illiteracy.

"I'm not going to play the wallflower," she told Elysée advisers in the run-up to the event in Deauville and also met with Normandy food producers.

The First Lady is also scheduled to meet women from African delegations and international organizations to discuss the “protection of mothers and children against AIDS” in a working lunch. Her foundation, set up two years ago, aims to help the estimated 3 million people in France who are illiterate.

She said she had been shaken after meeting people who could not read and write and wanted to give them a "voice and visibility in order to lift the taboo on a problem that affects all developed countries".

"The combat against illiteracy must become a big national cause," she said. "It is both urgent and important."

On Thursday, the supermodel-turned-singer confirmed the news that she and the French president are expecting a child - due a few months before the president seeks re-election next May.

As Carla posed for photographers with the other leaders’ wives, it has been reported that Geertrui van Rompuy, the wife of the European Council president, asked her about the “bebe”. Carla was heard as saying: "Il se cache (it is hiding).

But it will end up coming out one day or another."

The Elysée has been quiet on the subject of Carla’s pregnancy:

"She is saying nothing; he is saying nothing…we don't want to be accused of using the news." Italian-born Carla has a nine-year-old son from a former relationship while French President Nicolas Sarkozy, 56, has three sons from two previous marriages.
