Off-duty Federal Agent Shot Bay Area, Authorities say an off-duty federal agent was shot in the San Francisco Bay area city of Newark.


The shooting occurred just before 6 a.m. Tuesday outside the agent's home. Newark Police Commander Bob Douglas said the officer was taken to a trauma center although he did not know in what condition.

It also was not clear what agency the agent represented.

Douglas said the shooting occurred during a confrontation. He did not have additional details about the circumstances, but said it did not appear to have occurred during any type of official enforcement action.

The shooter apparently fled in a vehicle. Police have not made any arrests.
