Matthew Morrison, who plays teacher Will Schuester in the show, has directed the one-off which features a cameo from the character.
The actor told ABC's Jimmy Kimmel that Glee had contacted Star Wars director George Lucas about organising a guest.
Morrison said: "It's a tribute and throw-back to the Star Wars holiday special."
He added: "There's only one guy who can officially be Chewbacca [Peter Mayhew]. We had Chewbacca for the day.
"It was great. We were all taking pictures with him. It is a huge guest star."
Previous guest stars in the series have included singer Britney Spears and actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
Fans will be able to see how Chewbacca gets on as the episode airs on Thursday 15 December at 9pm Sky1 HD.
Meanwhile, the show's executive music producer Adam Anders has also confirmed that Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan will star in an episode in the New Year.
In what he calls a 'Spanglish' episode he told Billboard: "We're just starting the planning."
