Amy Leigh Brown + sheriff's deputy
Amy Leigh Brown + sheriff's deputy, There would be much to ridicule in the story of Amy Leigh Brown, a North Carolina woman who accidentally (we think) texted a sheriff’s deputy to make a drug deal. That, in and of itself, would earn Brown the Nelson “ha ha” special. Except it’s impossible to look past one minor detail from Tampa Bay Online’s story — that Brown was a Marion resident currently residing on Scooby Doo Drive. Yes, that’s not a misprint. Or a fabrication. It’s a dream come true.
Brown was charged with one felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance. She was taken into custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
Late last Thursday, Deputy P.V. Alkire of the McDowell (N.C.) County Sheriff’s Office received a text message from a phone number he didn’t recognize.
It stated, “Hey it’s Amy. Do you want business tonight?”
Now, it doesn’t take the Mystery Gang to realize an errant text like that is either drugs or prostitution and would probably result in an easy arrest. So he texted back that he wanted some business and told Brown to meet him at a truck stop.
Brown texted back that she had some “bones,” which in street parlance is slang for the anti-anxiety medication Xanax. Alkire responded that he wanted 10. The sting was set up and officers arrived on the scene to find Brown waiting in the passenger seat of a car parked behind the truck stop.
When confronted by the cops, Brown denied having ever texted the police officer. After all, she deleted all the texts in her phone so there couldn’t possibly anyway to connect her to the drug deal.
“[Alkire] called the phone number the texts came from and Ms. Brown’s phone rang,” Capt. Ricky Weeks informed everyone, as if supplying one final hilarious punchline.
Authorities discovered about 25 generic Xanax on her.
She would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those damn kids and that rascally dog.
