Pastor Tim Hortons lesbian safety, Family Friendly' Tim Hortons Asks Lesbian Couple to Leave. A lesbian couple are in shock after a Tim Hortons coffee shop manager asked them to leave the premises.

Riley Duckworth, 25, and her partner, Patricia Pattenden, 23, of London, Ontario, were sitting with family outside the Blenheim, ON, store three weeks ago when the assistant manager ordered them to go.
The offending behaviour? According to Duckworth and Pattenden, they had their arms round each other's waists and had exchanged a few affectionate kisses on the cheek. But a store customer, Eric Revie, says they were "straddling each other, making out" and "going further" than just kissing. Revie, a youth pastor at Glad Tidings Church in Blenheim, told staff it made him and his family uncomfortable, and a manager duly ejected the gay couple, saying it was a "family friendly environment" and threatening to call the police.

One fact, if true -- and no one has disputed it -- casts doubt on the Tim Hortons version of events. According to Duckworth and Pattenden, they were sitting with nine family members, including "Mom." If your mom and eight other relatives don't bat an eyelid at what you're doing, it's a pretty safe bet it's family friendly.

They also say the pastor who complained held an impromptu prayer circle in the parking lot as they left.

Tim Hortons have made what appears to be a non-apology. Denying the incident had anything to do with the couple's sexual orientation, the company's head office said Tim Hortons "have always welcomed all families and communities to their restaurants and will continue to do so," before sticking to its story, claiming that "the guests' behaviour went beyond public displays of affection and was making other guests feel uncomfortable."

Shame on this much-loved Canadian institution. And good luck to Duckworth and Pattenden getting a sincere apology from Timmy's for what has all the hallmarks of homophobia.
