Ricky Gervais backs Ed Helms for The Office role, Ricky Gervais sent a message of support to Ed Helms after he took over the lead role in NBC’s The Office , it has been revealed. Helms’s character is the new office manager, following the departure of Steve Carell at the end of season seven.


It was revealed in last week’s season eight premiere that Andy Bernard (Helms) had landed the promotion. Speaking in a conference call to journalists , Helms revealed: “I got a really lovely note from Ricky Gervais the day after the premiere last week.
