Cheryl Cole 'told to dump Derek Hough by bosses'. The Girls Aloud singer has found it difficult to make an impression since filming for Simon Cowell's new talent show started, with fellow judge Paula Abdul hogging the limelight at the auditions.

According to the Sunday Mirror, X Factor bosses have now told her to take steps to raise her profile in America - starting with ending her relationship with Derek.

They apparently believe being snapped with the Dancing With The Stars performer is bad for Cheryl's image and would prefer to see her rubbing shoulders with A-listers.

A source said: 'Derek may be dreaming of worldwide stardom but he's seen as a small-time dancer on a TV show ... and pretty uncool.
