Rogue kangaroo mauls two year old
The mother of Zakkiah Galea heard her son scream and rushed to the back of the house where she saw a kangaroo on top of him, clawing away at her son. His shirt was drenched in blood.
Being 8 months pregnant, all that Zakkiah mom could do was scream loud to try and scare the wild animal off her son. That didn’t work.
That’s when Zakkiah’s dad, Andrew, jumped in and began a physical fight with the kangaroo. After a few pushes from the dad, the kangaroo fled into the woods.
Zakkiah was rushed to the local hospital where he received 13 stitches to cover up wounds on his chest and right shoulder. He also got to deep slashes in his face that run from his mouth to his ear.
The lad is understandably shook up and it’s isn’t surprising he calls the animal a ‘tiger kangaroo’. Doctors said he’ll be alright and make a full recovery but may keep a thin scar in his face from the slashes.
Zakkiah said he doesn’t want to come near the rogue kangaroo anymore.
Peter Clark, who manages the Park and Wild Animal services says that Zakkiah’s unfortunate incident with a kangaroo should serve as a reminder that these animals are wild and dangerous.
“Kangaroos may look cute but they don’t always act that way. It’s best to avoid contact with them,” says Clark.
