Drug Smugglers Caught Red-Handed After Sea Chase. Italian finance police seize 1,500 kilos of cannabis after catching smugglers in the act in the Mediterranean, south of the Spanish city of Malaga. Italian police naval units, acting in co-ordination with their colleagues from Spain's Guardia Civil, intervened after a spotter plane noticed two Spanish boats coming together to meet a fast-moving dinghy arriving from Morocco.Suspicions were heightened further when officers spotted boxes being transferred between the vessels. Police later confirmed that the cargo was cannabis.

The two boats, flying British flags, were intercepted after the rendezvous as they were sailing back towards the Spanish coast.

The smugglers, four Bulgarian citizens, were arrested after a sea chase.
