Tebow 'forced' on owner
Former Denver Broncos executive Ted Sundquist, who interviewed for the Jets' general manager job, told ESPN New York on Monday that Johnson said Tebow was "forced" on him and team president Neil Glat.
Presumably, former general manager Mike Tannenbaum convinced Johnson to approve trading for Tebow. Tannenbaum was fired after the regular season in which the Jets finished 6-10. The Jets hired John Idzik as his replacement last week.
"They realized it was divisive and hard on the locker room, and they wanted an exit strategy," Sundquist said.
Tebow barely played in 2012 and his future status with the team is uncertain. Idzik faces the challenge of finding a consistent quarterback as starter Mark Sanchez struggled during the season and ultimately lost his job to Greg McElroy.
