Kris Humphries fraud, Kris Humphries is officially ready to put his 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian behind him.Click on image for large view |
On Wednesday, the NBA player, 26, answered Kardashian's October 31 divorce filing by seeking to annul their brief marriage on the grounds of fraud.
Submitting papers to the Superior Court, Humphries checked the boxes marked "nullity of voidable marriage" and "fraud." Like Kardashian, he listed the date of separation as October 31.
"The reason Kris is alleging 'fraud' is because the other options were ridiculous," a source close to Humphries tells Us Weekly of his official filings. (Other grounds on which a marriage could be annulled include bigamy, incest or force.)
"The whole 'fraud' thing is ridiculous. If the marriage was a sham, he was in on it," continues the insider. "Did he not see the cameras or get a cut of whatever money was made? The marriage was real. It was just a terrible and unhappy one."
If Humphries gets his way, the couple will avoid divorce proceedings altogether. An ironclad prenuptial agreement guarantees that the 31-year-old reality starlet -- who wed Humphries in a lavish Montecito, Calif., ceremony Aug. 20 -- will hold onto all moneys earned during their marriage.
Friends of the pair told Us the sports star freeloaded off of his wife and put her down her during their whirlwind romance. "He belittled her in front of people," one insider said. "He tried to control Kim by bringing her down...He would say truly terrible things. One time, he said she had no talent and her fame wouldn't last."
