Scarlett Johansson director, Scarlett Johansson is set to make her directorial debut with Summer Crossing.

The Iron Man 2 star, who directed short film These Vagabond Shoes on the New York, I Love You DVD, is intent to prove she's more than just a pretty face as she lines up a stint in the director's chair for the big-screen adaptation of Truman Capote's first novel, reported Variety.

Oscar-winning The Deer Hunter producer Barry Spikings, Peter D Graves and the Truman Capote Literary Trust are supporting Scarlett on her first full-length film, which is being adapted by playwright Tristin Skyler.

The novel - which was initially written in 1943 but was only published posthumously in 2005 - focuses on 17-year-old Grady who jeopardises her social standing when she embarks on a torrid affair with a parking attendant and then marries him and becomes pregnant.

There is no word as to a planned production start date yet.

Scarlett, who has also branched out into music when she released an album in 2008, will next be seen in Cameron Crowe's comedy drama We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon before reprising her role as the Black Widow in superhero blockbuster The Avengers.
