Captain passes lie detector
A lie detector test taken by Dennis Davern showed he told the truth about hearing Wood and her husband Robert Wagner arguing before she disappeared, and that Wagner played a role in the death, instructing Davern not to talk about the drowning, according to ABC News.
Examiner Howard Temple said the polygraph results “indicated he was telling the truth.”
Polygraph expert Dr. Edward Gelb told TMZ he remains skeptical of Davern. “If you believed something occurred, you would run truthful. It doesn’t mean it happened … it means the subject believes it happened,” Gelb said. Davern has also admitted that he was drinking the night of the death.
TMZ also reported the lie detector test would not be admissable in court, even if the case goes to trial.
Wood, the star of “West Side Story” and “Rebel Without a Cause,” apparently accidentally drowned after boating with Wagner and actor Christopher Walken, her costar in “Brainstorm.” Davern and Natalie Wood’s sister Lana Wood asked police to re-open the case last year.
Lifeguard Roger Smith told “Good Morning America” that he believes Wood could have been struggling for hours.
“I could have saved her,” Smith said, but that he was “not called in time.”
Wagner and Walken have not yet made statements concerning the investigation.
