Puppy swallows flag pole
Blue somehow got hold of a flag post and began chewing on it. The metal post got caught in his mouth and his natural gag reflex caused him to swallow it. Blue's owners tried to remove the post, but it wouldn't come out.
He was struggling, and having a hard time breathing. The owners quickly took Blue to Rehm Animal Clinic.
"Because of the cross pole he didn't swallow it completely, had he swallowed it completely he would've died," said Dr. Chris Rehm. Puppy swallows flag pole,
Dr. Rehm says they had to use bolt cutters to cut a part of the post, and then surgically remove the longest end, which was deep in Blue's stomach.
"I've been practicing veterinarian medicine for thirty years. I've seen dogs swallow bed linens, I've seen them swallow cuff-links and watches and all kind of things but I've never seen a dog swallow something as long," said Dr. Rehm. Blue still needs his rest, but you can see that today he's alert and active.
"Once we get this healed up he's good to go, he's already eating again and matter of fact, I imagine he's ready to swallow something else," said Dr. Rehm.
