IHOP shooting gunman in Nevada

IHOP shooting gunman in Nevada. Authorities and witnesses say a man with a rifle opened fire at a Carson City IHOP restaurant Tuesday morning, shooting patrons and himself.

The shooting happened at about 9 a.m. at the restaurant in a strip mall on the state capital's main street.

n an 11 a.m. news conference, Carson City Sheriff Department Sheriff Ken Fulong confirmed three people had died. The shooter died lated at an area hospital of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

Authorities say two of the three people killed were National Guardsmen in uniform.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said extra security measures have been put in place on state and military buildings in northern Nevada as a safety precaution.

No names were released.

Witnesses said a man pulled up outside the IHOP in a blue minivan. He had a rifle and shot a man on a motorcycle, then walked inside the restaurant and started shooting.

Furlong said another update on the shooting would be held at 3 p.m. PDT.
