Samokovareva Hidden Cameras. Florida detectives are investigating a complaint from two young Bulgarian women who found hidden cameras, disguised as smoke detectors, in their apartment in northwest Hillsborough County, near Tampa.
The victims, Ralitsa Dzhambasova (23) and Vanya Samkovareva (22) are students who moved to the US for the summer to improve their English. They had also been working part-time as waitresses before becoming "pizza babes" for a local businessman, according to reports on local television.
The incident was widely reported in various Florida media as well as on CNN and even the New York Daily News.
The pair now fear that the footage might have found its way onto the internet.
The cameras were in a bathroom, as well as the living room and bedrooms, the women said. After finding the cameras the women taped paper over the lenses and contacted deputies.
"We are not in the porno industry or something like this," Dzhambasova said. "I want the police in the United States to do something for a person like this - to protect us. This is terrible."
The women said they moved in late May to the subleased apartment but were unaware of any cameras until this week. Dzhambasova and Samokovareva are upset their images may have been captured without their knowledge.
"The bathroom is your room, it's a private space," Samokovareva said.
Dzhambasova worries her career goal to become a journalist could be in jeopardy. "If somebody wants to watch this, he's not normal, he's crazy," she said.
According to local newspaper the St Petersburg Times, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and says detectives have recovered some equipment and are following several leads.
