How to Set Teen Curfew

How to Set Teen Curfew
How to set teen curfew. As your teens grow older, they’ll want to stay out later. And for these teens, there’s something about the sun going down that makes everything seem much more fun.

You can let them go out at night, but it’s important that you set a curfew that they’ll follow.

Curfews will make your teens realize that they have to be responsible young adults. Curfews will teach them how to make decisions because at the end of the night, they’ll have to go back home.

If you’ve never given your teen a curfew before, here’s how to do it…

First, there’s what’s called a blanket curfew.

Blanket curfews are set at the same time each day, but it doesn’t have to be the same on weeknights as on weekends. It does, however, need to be consistent from weekday to weekday and weekend to weekend.

Talk to your teens about the importance of responsibility – that you are setting a curfew but also trusting that they’ll be home on time. Let them know that you still have the right to call them if you feel like you have to.

The other type of curfew is one that is set based on what your teens do.

This can be harder to enforce because you’d be making decisions each time your teen wants to go out.
