Glee stars to leave

Glee stars to leave. Cory Monteith and Mark Salling who play Finn Hudson and Noah Puckerman, respectively, are most likely to bid “Glee” goodbye next year.

According to series creator Ryan Murphy, Finn and Puck are seniors in the fictional William McKinley High – where TV’s favorite school choir New Directions resides – and the actors playing the characters are already in their late 20s making their “Glee” dismissal inevitable in 2012.

“Every year we’re going to populate a new group (of characters in the show). There’s nothing more depressing than a high schooler with a bald spot. I think you have to be true to the fact that here is a group of people who come and go in these teachers’ lives – they graduate and they’re gone,” Murphy said in a statement posted on perezhilton.com.

Monteith and Salling (who incidentally spent Christmas in Boracay, Philippines) are both 28 years old.

Murphy added that the characters’ exit episodes promise to be very emotional. “When some of them finish their run at high school it will be very teary episodes,” he expressed.

Graduating characters, however, means new ones are to be fleshed out. Murphy and the show’s writers say they can weave new and interesting protagonists for the series.

“For me it will be particularly tough (seeing them go) but a new crop (of actors) will come in,” said Murphy. “I was concerned about that (whether to have characters graduate and leave the show) because those kids caught on so quickly – but I think one of the things I’m very happy we’ve been able to do this years is we’ve brought in new characters.”

One “Glee” star who quickly appealed to the show’s followers in just a few episodes is that of Sam, played by Chord Overstreet, who first appeared on “Glee’s” season 2 pilot along with Charice Pempengco. Murphy said the show can keep evolving this way.

“I think if you can keep regenerating – and I didn’t think we could – I didn’t know if people would want those characters (like Sam) but they do.”

Apart from Monteith and Salling, other “Glee” actors in their early or mid-20s are Lea Michele (Rachel Berry), 24; Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray), 24; Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones), 24; Naya Rivera (Santana Lopez), 23; Heather Morris (Brittany Pears), 23; and Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams), 22.

In related news, Salling recently told singer/model Solenn Heussaff (whom the actor met in Boracay during Christmas break) that he “never wants to leave” the country anymore. In a report aired Jan. 6 on “24 Oras,” Salling said to the “Survivor” beauty how he wanted to quit “Glee” and marry a Filipina.
