Please download Flash from the Adobe download website. Measuring around 3cm in diameter, the hailstones hit the towns of Cavaillon and Plan-d'Orgon in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region.

The violent storm happened without warning. The weather had been very warm when suddenly it started to rain and a threatening cloud appeared, reports said. About 60mm of water fell within minutes. One farmer said he lost around 25 tonnes of melons. Other witnesses said several buildings, including greenhouses, were damaged.
