Philips lighting recall two injuries

Philips lighting recall two  injuries
Philips lighting recall two &  injuries. Compact Fluorescent Bulbs marketed by Philips Lighting, and manufactured between March 2007 and May 2010 and sold at stores through and including July 2011 have been recalled.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced today, 11 August 2011, that Philips Lighting has voluntarily recalled these Philips Lighting CFL’s due to a previously unknown manufacturing problem.

The glue that is used to attach the glass bowl of the lamps to the base disintegrates, and it is then possible for the glass bowl to dislodge, and fall to the ground. The glass shatters on impact, creating a laceration hazard or injury risk. It is also possible that while the glass bowl is falling it may cause damage to people or property.

There are currently about 1.86 million March 2007 to May 2010 Philips Lighting Company’s EnergySaver or Marathon Classic Compact Fluorescent Dimmable Reflector Lamps in circulation.

Philips Lighting Company of New Jersey has received approximately 700 reports of defective lamps, which include some reports of minor injury and property damage.

The recalled Compact Fluorescent bulb model numbers are as follows:

EL/A R30 Dim 16w (UPC: 46677 13 7076 and 46677 15 0419);

EL/A R40 Dim 20w (UPC: 46677 13 7083 and 46677 15 0426);

EL/A Par38 Dim 20w (UPC: 46677 14 6443 and 46677 15 0433).

The product model number is printed on the white ceramic part of the lamp at the bottom of the bulb. The UPC, or Universal Product Code, will be found on the bottom of the box, or, if blister-packed, on the top right corner of the package.

Consumers need to be aware that they should stop using these bulbs immediately, and should contact Philips to find out how to receive a free replacement bulb. www.recall.philips.com

Consumers also need to be aware that it is an offence for any merchant to sell these products.
